About the Unconference

The SpaceUp Houston 2012 Unconference will feature spontaneous sessions created by attendees.  An unconference is also known as a user-generated conference or BarCamp.  Participants will decide the topics, schedule, and structure of the event.  Learn more about the unconference format at http://spaceuphouston.org/spaceup-2012-unconference/.  Space unconferences have been held in cities across the United States including San Diego, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC to promote discussions on cutting edge technologies, space outreach, and the future of the space industry in the United States.

SpaceUp Houston is made possible because of generous sponsors including The Boeing Company, Thinkgeek, and HGK Asset Management.   Our supporting partners include NASA, Lunar & Planetary Institute, Schipul, and Yuri’s Night.  There are still a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available with sponsor package information available on SpaceUp Houston’s website.

In addition to the unconference sessions, there will be a variety of great activities over the 2-day weekend conference such as T minus 5 Talks (Ignite style presentations), a space show-and-tell, Industry experts leading discussions on innovations in the commercial aerospace companies, giveaways and great surprises throughout the weekend.

Attendees from previous SpaceUp Houston events have traveled from all over the country with ages ranging from seven to seventy years old. SpaceUp Houston’s mission is to nurture new and radical concepts, develop partnerships, and is meant for you to create a future worth living in.  Last year’s Unconference gave birth to Spacepoints, on online gaming platform serving as a mechanism to promote space related outreach and engagement beyond the space community.

Last year’s attendees had this to say about the unconference:

“Energizing event with inspiring people.”
“These are the people changing the future!”
